Insurance
The best way to keep your insurance at it’s lowest possible price is to accrue no claims bonuses by good driving.
The best way to get a good price in the first place is to scour the comparison market; go compare, confused.com, money supermarket, compare the market etc etc. Tell them all the same information. Some ask if you intend to do 'pass plus', and some don't. So to make sure you are comparing the same info, tell them you're NOT doing pass plus, as you can always contact them later to see if discounts are available.
DON’T forget, there are some companies who don’t appear on price comparisons’. Churchill, Direct Line, Aviva and Tesco are just some of them. If you or a family member work for Tesco, ask about Tesco’s “my benefits”, as they give a staff discount.
Once you have the best 7 or 8 quotes from the above methods, phone them up to ask how much cheaper it would be with pass plus certificate.
Another method is to go on your parent(s) insurance as a named driver. Be honest, as if you are indeed the main driver, it would be illegal. This can be a useful method of reducing insurance, but it isn’t much use if you can’t accrue your own no-claims bonuses. It’s better if those bonuses are transferrable to other insurers.
Some pupils of mine are reporting great discounts on a website called “I kube”. You’re only allowed to drive between 5am and 11pm. This is feasible in most cases; you aren’t generally going to be on the road after 11pm or before 5am.
